What a long strange trip it’s been. And what a longer stranger trip it will be from here on out. Thank you all for your continued love and support.

Getting ready to go home, Grace is nonchalantly working on her pacifier and is not wired at all. She spent last night off the monitors but still had the hookups, just in case. We just had to go through the list of dos and don’ts with the doctor (don’t let her drive and don’t warm her in the oven!) and learn to administer a suppository and they cleared us for takeoff! Almost there!
I think this is it for Grace’s new friends for awhile. Born Monday April 29th at 7:26pm at a healthy 7lbs 15oz, Daphne is a textbook Take Home Baby using up almost all of her allotted 40 weeks (Kirstin was helping us run errands right up to the end!) and going home tomorrow, two days after her birth (and the same day as Grace). Good job Kirstin, her doula Jonathan and of course, little Daphne, who obviously knows how to play by the rules!
She passed her car seat test, she passed her hearing test…next stop the SATs! The whole family will be spending our first night together, just down the hall from the NICU. If Grace isn’t too upset by my snoring, she should be home by the afternoon! Jenn, who is already familiar with the snoring, may move back into the hospital.
We got you this new slightly used puppy! We hope you like him. We call him “Lincoln”. You can call him whatever you like.
Love, Mommy and Daddy
All strapped in, and ready to go! Minus the wires, this is will be about what it looks like on Wednesday when we pack up the family in the car and leave the NICU behind. Though her outfit will likely change 10-12 times between now and then, the confused and slightly disgruntled face will probably remain. She has to sit in the chair for an hour today without any breathing problems to be cleared for takeoff. Then we have to teach her to drive.
Obviously Grace is going to miss the NICU nurses, but as you can see during her last hospital bath, she is ecstatic that she will be getting the rest of her baths at home.
A couple of i’s to dot and t’s to cross but otherwise all systems go. Yes, Jenn…touch wood…poo, poo, poo…etc, etc, etc.
