I have solved the mystery of the little ducky hat! All it took was 10-15 minutes of our pediatrician’s well-earned time, a scale, several diagrams and a background check (to make sure the ducky hat manufacturering conglomerate hadn’t gotten to her). Apparently babies that are 6 lbs 1 oz (the size of a Crenshaw melon) no longer fit into preemie hats. In medical terms, they call this “growing”. No amount of medical jargon is likely to help me understand what a Crenshaw melon is, however.
