Beverly Hills Gracie

07 Jul

We're on a week-long trip to LA to stay with Jenn's cousins. They couldn't wait to meet little Grace so they threw a little party last night to introduce her to everyone. Grace is loving the backyard pool and waterfalls. I am keeping both of the girls away from Rodeo Drive.

Happy Co-dependence Day!

Sure we are all ‘independent” but everyone needs something. Whether it’s foreign oil, a Willamette Pinot Noir or a swaddle blanket and a pacifier we all co-depend most days. This swing is our addiction. It allows us to put the Grace toy back in its (her) box when it (she) is crying and we have to deal with something else. It takes about 5 minutes of swing before she is in an opium-den-worthy daze and we can go about our business. This is so important to our everyday lives that I am told I have to break this thing down and pack in the car for our week-long trip to LA. That it would take up about half the car doesn’t seem to change the fact that we ain’t got a thing if we ain’t got this swing.

Bad News for Grace

02 Jul

As if she didn’t have enough problems trying to catch up to all those “Take Home Babies”, it looks like she fell into the shallow end of the gene pool as well.

On the left is our heroine and on the right is her dear old dad at 1 month.

The good news is that she will probably get her Mom’s fashion sense.

Don’t worry Grace, I’m sure this doesn’t mean that you are going to have a beard!

Happy (Belated) 3 Monthiversary, Grace!

Three days ago, little Grace hit three months. I was too busy complaining about all the stuff she doesn’t do yet to put up a post to celebrate. Of course, she had to show me up and start doing a bunch of new stuff.

  • Smiling – She is certainly smiling at us from time to time, mostly when we don’t ask for it. If we ask her for it or crowd our faces in after a nice smile, she cries.
  • Gazing – When we talk to her she seems to look right into our eyes, listening intently. I’m sure that will last right up until her teen years.
  • Head Raising – She is getting better and better at holding her head up when she is vertical. She also lifts her head up when she is laying on her stomach.
  • Cooing – Making a sound other than crying is a huge improvement for Mommy and Daddy. She could have us tearing our hair out for 10 minutes with her screaming and one little coo and we are over the moon.

For those of you keeping score, according to her doctor, Grace is acting like a 5-week-old, though her head raising is more like a 3-month old. Daddy’s little genius.

Grace is a Big Baby

01 Jul

We went to the doctor yesterday for some more immunizations and they weighed her on what we consider to be the “official” scale. We were expecting to see a little difference from the 10 lbs 1.8 oz that Jenn captured at Day One on Friday but we were not expecting to suddenly have a 10 lb 9 oz baby. Not only is that a 7 oz gain, but she advanced from 5th to 10th percentile weight group for babies her age (ie she weighs more than 10% of them).

There are a few possible explanations for the big swing:

  1. The nurse may have previously worked in a shady deli and thinks we pay by the pound.
  2. Grace is putting on more than 3 oz per day, which translates to more than a pound a week and we are going to need a bigger house.
  3. Grace is about to have the biggest poop of her career.
  4. The scales are a little off at Day One.

We never saw the #2 mentioned in #3 so I am going to have to hope for #4.
