To put this in Grace-specific terms, sometime between tomorrow and next week marks the one year anniversary of her conception. In our house, we find it classier to just celebrate the anniversary of our wedding and leave the conception as an unspoken assumption…that I just spoke.
So it was one year ago today that Jenn and I stood under a chuppah in the heat of Napa Valley and sweated out promises to each other that the ride would be fun, though neither of us had any illusions that it would be smooth. And smooth it has not been…but I wouldn’t trade it for anything and, ultimately, it has been fun. I gave Jenn three rings, each with a word inscribed: “Life”, “Love” and “Dream”. If I could add a fourth word it would have to be “Luck”. I feel like the luckiest person in the world for reasons that, if you have been reading this blog for any length of time, you already know.
Thank you Jenn, for being my partner and for putting up with me so convincingly that you can call it “Love” and be believed. And thank you for bringing that baby into our lives safely and with enough drama that everyone knows that she’s yours (since she really looks like me).
Happy 1st Anniversary!
I Love You.
P.S. I got the most
amazing anniversary gift from my lovely wife. She had
Sara Remington (the fantastic photographer from our wedding) come spend a day with Grace. The results (including the picture above) are so wonderful they make make me want to have Sara follow Grace around for the rest of her life. You will have to indulge me for my fatherness on my anniversary when I say
“damn that kid is cute!” You can click on the picture to see the pics (or go to
www.sendtoprint.net) and type in “happyanniversary” as the event.
