Note: Most the pictures below were taken by Poppy (aka Jim White). Sadly our regular photographer, Lincoln, was not invited to today’s festivities.
We all wondered a little whether a 15month old baby would really “get” the zoo, but we decided that it sounded like a great Father’s Day activity anyway. Grace, Jenn and I were joined by Grandma and Poppy and we were all greeted by a beautiful day in San Francisco.
Any question of her enthusiasm disappeared after Grace’s first spotting sighting of the giraffes.
She pointed, squealed, laughed, danced and deftly ignored her Poppy’s insistence that these were just large and awkward dogs (Poppy will not be home schooling his grand-daughter).
We kept her moving so she could make as many new friends as possible. From the cute and quick (prairie dogs) to the wrinkled and slow (tortoises), from the feathered and noble (eagles) and the low and slithery (below) she loved them all.
Even Bla Bla got to meet some distant relations.
The petting zoo was a particular favorite, where Grace couldn’t stop saying “Baaa” to the woollier among them.
And Grace wasn’t the only one making friends…
We thought Jim might be adopting a brother for Linus.
The day had a few tantrums (mostly from Grace), but without much of a nap, that was to be expected. Especially when we kept pulling her away from her new friends over and over again.
But we figured that those friendships would be quickly forgotten based on her treatment of best-friend Bla Bla when faced with the novelty of a tractor ride.
We will surely be back to the zoo, with our newly minted year-long membership, to see how she likes the things that say “Grrrrr”.
