Documenting the new things that Hazel does takes all the luck and patience of a wildlife photographer. You have to watch for hours and then have a camera at the ready to see a smile or a new expression and even then, it doesn’t always turn out right, in focus or worth watching. We got ourselves a new pocket video camera that we will try to keep charged and nearby to capture those adorable moments in as much definition as possible.

Despite not doing many terribly new or groundbreaking things, we are learning more a more about her. For example, we learned that she is 11 lbs 11 oz when the nurses at the pediatrician’s office happened to put her on the scale. They also let us in on the previously unknown fact that Hazel’s percentiles are 25th in head circumference, 75th in length, and 50th in weight. Fascinating.

All of this is meaningless if you can’t appreciate a little smiling and looking around. Here is a video, so you can.

We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Benjamin into the world! Born March 7th at 1:08 AM, he is 8lbs 3oz, 22 inches, and going to have to get A LOT bigger to defend his last name in the schoolyard. His mom, Lolo (Lauren) is, was and forever will be our doula, our boob juice voodoo witch, our naughty nurse, our comic relief and our go-to encyclopedia on all things baby. She was there from minute one when Grace’s pregnancy went squirrelly and stood around looking bored when Hazel’s didn’t.

Like correcting an English teacher’s grammar, or watching a construction worker build their own house, we look forward to Ben’s progress through new baby-hood. After his 4 days-after-his-due-date entrance this morning, he is 0 for 1 on following the rules.

Congratulations to Lolo, Daddy Jay and sisters Mollie and Maggie who are all anxiously awaiting their newest family member’s lessons in how boys are “different”.

We’ve been a little busy so babies that were born within a day of Hazel get a late welcome. Wesley McManis was born on January 20th in Vermont to our friends Lis and Keith. Where Hazel came out right before her 39th week, Wesley waited until the middle of his 41st week to arrive. That’s what happens when you give the baby a choice. Congratulations to the happy parents! We look forward to introducing him to Hazel but, despite Jenn’s negotiations, I think an arranged marriage is premature, especially given Wes’ inability to be on time for ANYTHING he does.
