We’re heeeere

08 Oct

Ok, we’ve been here for about a week but I finally found the time (it was in the box with my underwear) to sit down and type something. We made it! The big trek from the big city to the big suburb was daunting, but it is nothing compared to the “great unpacking” that has taken over. The big push was to get the house all ready for little Grace to arrive and not think that she was living in some parallel universe where the all her stuff was there but the walls looked different and Mommy and Daddy were tired all the time.

So we installed a swing, assembled some new toys and made the kid parts of the house safe for little ones. It worked because Grace seems to be perfectly adjusted to her new surroundings. Her new world has a big place to ride cars, there is a fun red swing, crayons in the bathtub and Mommy and Daddy are tired all the time. So life is mostly great. Pictures to come, when a few more boxes are unpacked.

Oops, I guess I haven’t been seeing (and accepting) comments on the blog for awhile. If you are one of those that commented and haven’t seen it show up until now…sorry.

I Love Bagelzzzzz

Grace shows a certain lack of focus here in her inability to complete
the job she set out to do. C'mon kid, Noah and Mommy are counting on
you.

Happy 18th Month, Grace

29 Sep

Attempted parental teaching: “Life is not just about laying in bed eating cereal, young lady.”

Response: Blank stare followed by “I’ve been around for a year and a half and I think it is clear who is in charge” smirk.

Lesson continued: “Sometimes you have to shake things up…upset the apple cart.”

Response continued: (dumps cereal into bed) (laughs)

End Lesson.

What we meant was that life is full of change and change is good, fun, scary and unstoppable.

After a few days at Grammie and Papa’s house, Grace, you and Bla Bla will come home to the same toys (and some new ones), the same bed, the same parents and the same dog but in a completely different house. We know that after a (probably very brief) period of adjustment, you will fall in love with your playroom, your backyard to ride your car, your eventual swingset and everything else worth exploring in your new neighborhood. We will love Daddy’s shorter commute, the BBQ, the garage and the lack of steep hills and stairs that we have to carry you up, and the fireplace for the coming winter.

There are a lot of things and people we will miss moving from San Francisco to San Mateo but as avid and excellent collectors of people, we will get to see those people and visit those people for the rest of our lives. You can always consider yourself “San Francisco born”, which may be impressive, no matter where you live throughout your life.

So you have to remember that change is good but it can also be traumatic…just ask Hazel when you meet her in 4 months!

We love you VERY MUCH and look forward to making this and many more changes with you in the coming years.

Love, Mommy and Daddy

Decadence

The sentiment wouldn't be any more clear, if that plastic Chicken
McNugget was a chocolate Bon-Bon and she had a toddler martini in her
hand.

Is THIS the Dawning of the Age of Aquarius?

22 Sep

People keep asking what Hazel’s due date is and the only answer I have is somewhere between November 15th (30 weeks when Grace was born) and February 1st (her due date). That is a pretty big spread!

Today, we narrowed it down a little when Jenn made her C-Section appointment. Grace was born that way (through no choice of our own) and we have opted to go the same route for Hazel after talking to a number of professionals (the medical kind) about the pros and cons of delivery methods and then weighing in our own thoughts on the subject. If Hazel can go the distance towards full term, we will opt to meet her on January 25th, first thing in the morning. This will give us a weekend to mentally prepare and then a regular week in the hospital to recover followed by a triumphant weekend return to home to face the rest of our lives.

Our choice (if we have one) will make her an Aquarius, which might be good…

and it might be bad…

…but either way it will certainly be interesting.

Hazel Nyah Nyah

17 Sep

Thumbing her nose at us for the first time, Hazel asked us to turn out the lights and let her sleep and kick Mommy in peace.

It looks like she is carrying a purse in this one.

Real Walkin’

06 Sep

We’ve seen a few steps before but tonight Grace took to it like a pro, only stopping to fall occasionally and to applaud her accomplishments.

Bla Bla’s new dog

06 Sep

Bla Bla has always been a little jealous of Grace’s relationship with Lincoln. He gets kisses in the morning and some pre-arranged portion of her every meal while she gets tossed around like, well, a ragdoll. Yesterday our good friend Sara came back from a shopping trip with something she thought was for Grace, but turned out to be a new companion for Bla Bla. He doesn’t have a name yet but we are sure that Grace will let us know when she hears it.
